Overview
Controller Continuity is a feature available on Red-series Controllers and Red Wireless Locks that stores a local copy of the Person Database, Rules, and Auto Open Schedules on the Controller / Lock. Access Control is maintained for a configured period when disconnected from the Cloud Node, before switching to Ecard operation.
This provides operational flexibility, so you don't need to send a technician on-site immediately to resolve an issue. Also, if the cause of the communication disruption is known and accessible, the hardware can remain operational while the issue is resolved.
Quick Reference Guide
Access control will function while offline, and the following features will be available while in Controller Continuity Mode:
- Person or Group Access Rules
- Cards, PINs, or Bluetooth Credentials
- Auto Open Schedules
NOTE: Any Access Rules or Auto Open Schedules created after the Controller / Lock goes offline will not sync and will not function until the connection is restored.
The following will not function while in Controller Continuity Mode:

Offline Event Storage
Once the Controller / Lock connection is restored, stored Event Data will populate in an Event Report.
Offline Storage Limits:
- Cloud Node: Up to 100,000 events
- Controllers / Red Locks: Up to 5,000 events
NOTE: If a Device reaches its maximum event limit while offline, the oldest events are deleted to make room for new events (FIFO - First In, First Out).
Time Validation & System Health
If the Controller / Lock cannot validate the current time while offline, you can pre-configure who will be granted access.
- People with 24x7 Access
- Ignore Schedules
- Ecards Only
You can monitor the model, firmware revision, and the sync status of the Access database for each controller on the System Health page.
