Overview
Geofencing can restrict the use of Mobile Button Credentials based on the user's physical location. By implementing Geofencing, you can ensure that Doors are only triggered when the user is within a specific range of the property, adding an essential layer of security to your site.
NOTE: With new Authentication Policy updates, door access may differ depending on the Authentication Policy (e.g., remote access to residential doors, geofenced access to community doors).
How to Configure:
Setting the Address
New Customers: During Customer Creation, enter the building address in the Address Field
Existing or Multisite Customers: For previously created accounts or multisite customers, the address can be set in System Settings and Configuration
PDK uses the Google Maps API to automatically convert the entered street address into precise Latitude and Longitude coordinates. The location pin can be moved if the entered address was incorrect.
Applying Distance Restrictions
Set the distance restriction within a Group or Person Access Rule
Geofenced restriction can be set between 0.25 and 5 Miles
Users can be assigned multiple rules with varying distance restrictions based on their specific access needs
NOTE: To enable Geofencing on a system, all Cloud Nodes on that system must be running Cloud Node Software version 2.4.x or later. Please contact Technical Support if your Cloud Node is not up to date.
Mobile App View:
The PDK Mobile App provides real-time feedback to the user regarding their location relative to the Geofence:
| Status | Icon | |
|---|---|---|
| In Range | User is within the defined boundary, and access is allowed | |
| Out of Range | User is outside the boundary, access is denied. A dialog message tells the user they must be closer to the door to gain access | |
| Offline | Location settings are not configured, or the device cannot get an accurate location | |
NOTE: Precise Location Services must be enabled on the user’s phone
iOS: Settings > Apps > PDK Access
Android: Long-press on app icon > App Info > Permissions > Location
