A common question with ProdataKey systems is "What readers can be used with a PDK system?" Answering this question is both a straightforward and potentially difficult task.
When considering if a non-ProdataKey reader will work with a ProdataKey system, the first thing to do is determine if the reader utilizes either Wiegand or OSDP wiring. If the reader does not utilize either of these wiring standards, the reader will not work with a ProdataKey system.
After determining the wiring for the 3rd party reader, the next step is determining if the reader uses a proprietary card format/encryption. This does not refer to a non-26-bit/non-Red card format but instead refers to readers/cards meant to function only with specific access control systems. If you are unsure if the reader/card format/encryption in question is proprietary or not, please reach out to our Support team and they can assist you on this.
