Connecting multiple batteries to a Cloud Node or Controller will function differently, based on how the batteries are connected. When using multiple batteries to provide backup power for Prodata Key hardware, we strongly recommend only using batteries of similar voltage.
Parallel
When wired in a Parallel format, the capacities of the connected batteries are added together, increasing the capacity of the combined batteries. This means the backup batteries will provide the same voltage with a longer duration.
To connect multiple batteries in parallel, connect the positive terminals of each battery together with an appropriate wire connection and connect the negative terminals of each battery together with an appropriate wire connection. The Cloud Node or Controller is then connected to one battery at the end of the connected batteries.
Serial
When wired in a Serial/Series format, the voltage of the connected batteries is added together. This allows multiple lower-voltage backup batteries to provide the required voltage.
To connect multiple batteries in serial/series, connect the negative terminal of the first battery to the positive terminal of the second battery using an appropriate wire connection. The Cloud Node or Controller will then be connected to the positive terminal on the first battery and the negative terminal on the second battery.
