Step 1: Identify Legacy Device Uses
The first step in the process is to determine what legacy devices are present on the Cloud Node.
The icon above is displayed next to any Legacy Devices. Legacy Devices are Devices on a Cloud Node that were configured before the introduction of Device Identity in PDK.io.
This article will detail how Legacy Devices can be updated to 'Door or Gate' and 'IO Devices'. For information regarding how to convert Legacy Elevator Devices to Device Identity, please refer to the article 'How to update a Legacy Elevator to use Device Identity'.
Step 2: Updating a Legacy Reader to a 'Door or Gate' Device
Door or Gate Devices must be configured appropriately with Device Identity. The following Device types are available:
- Primary Reader
- Additional Reader
Every Device intended for Credential Input requires a Primary Reader. An Additional Reader is a Reader linked to a Primary Reader through programming so that the Additional Reader functions as an extension of the Primary Reader that it is linked to. For more information regarding Device Types, refer to the article about Device Types.
- Tap/click the Configuration icon from the Customer Dashboard.
- Tap/click the Device tab.
- Tap/click the Legacy Device that needs to be converted to Device Identity.
- In the Legacy Device, tap/click the kabob menu (three vertical dots) in the top right and select “Move to Another Type”
- Tap/click the appropriate Device Type for the Door or Gate Reader.
Step 3: Updating a Legacy Device to a 'Generic IO' or 'Premium IO' Device
Converting a Legacy Device to an IO device differs from Door or Gate Devices since Generic IO devices are limited, non-billable Devices, while Premium IO devices have similar functionality (except for allowing Additional Readers to be linked to it) to Primary Readers.
- Tap/click the appropriate Device Type for the IO Device.
