Device Discovery and Configuration
When specifying the system’s Electronic Access Control (EAC) IP address in the hub configuration, the address of the site’s ProdataKey Cloud Node should be used. This address can be found by consulting the site’s DHCP server leases. The DHCP client name will be the same as the Cloud Node’s serial number which can be found on the sticker inside the Cloud Node door.
The Cloud Node’s IP address can also be found by pinging the Cloud Node from a computer that is connected to the same network. On a Windows® computer, open a Command Prompt and type
ping -4 <CNSerial>.local
<CNSerial> should be replaced with the serial number of the Cloud Node.
This can be done similarly from a Mac OS computer by opening the Terminal application and typing
ping <CNSerial>.local
It is highly recommended that a reservation be created in the network’s DHCP server so that the Cloud Node’s address does not change in the future, which would require reconfiguring the Aperio hubs. If a DHCP server is not available or access to it is limited, please contact ProdataKey Support to have a static (permanent) IP address configured on the Cloud Node.
NOTE: By default, wireless devices use what is known as DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), which automatically assigns a dynamic (temporary) IP address for a network. For Ethernet connections, a static (permanent) IP address is REQUIRED; a static IP address is not required for Cloud Nodes.
Download the Lantronix DeviceInstaller (stand-alone version) at the Lantronix website for the necessary zip file (and DeviceInstaller Help, if necessary) to install and use this application.
NOTE: When adding an Ethernet door controller, ensure that when you are using the Lantronix device installer app that your WiFi is turned off and you are hard-wired from your laptop to the customer’s network, otherwise you will not be able to see the devices.
NOTE: To set up a static IP address for an Ethernet device, the third-party Lantronix DeviceInstaller application can be used. The suggested static IP address can be obtained from your IT manager or network administrator. The default dynamic IP address that is already assigned to the device by the router may also be used and converted to a static IP address.
NOTE: If or when you set a static IP on a Cloud Node and the Cloud Node does not come back online immediately, give it a few minutes. If it still does not come online then power cycle the Cloud Node for approximately 10 seconds; the Cloud Node should come back online.
Hub Connections
A connection for each Aperio Hub in the system must be created in the PDK Cloud Node configuration.
Log into https://pdk.io
Navigate to the Cloud Node for the system.
Select the Configuration icon. (A permission role of Integrator is required to access Configuration.)
In the Configuration screen, select the CONNECTIONS tab.
From this screen, a connection can be created by clicking the + icon at the bottom right of the page.
Select Aperio for the connection type.
Give the hub a unique descriptive Name, and enter the hub’s MAC address. (This can be found on the back of the hub or on its packaging.) Click Add.
It may take a short time for the hub to make a connection to the Cloud Node. Until the connection is successful, the status next to the Aperio Hub connection shows red.
Once the hub has successfully connected to the Cloud Node, the Aperio Hub connection shows green.
If the hub does not connect after 2-3 minutes, then try troubleshooting with these steps to diagnose network connectivity between the hub and the Cloud Node.
- Ensure that the hub has the proper EAC IP address configured.
- Double-check the MAC address that was entered for the hub in the connection configuration.
- Also, refer to Aperio's documentation for a discussion on troubleshooting the hub’s LED indications and using the Aperio PAP tool to gather more information on possible problems.
Repeat this process to add a connection for each hub that has been configured for this Cloud Node.
NOTE: The Aperio PAP tool may be accessed from the Assa Abloy web site or use a search engine to search for the tool.
Device Discovery and Configuration
Once the connections are created and the hubs are connected, a Device Configuration needs to be created in the Cloud Node for each Aperio device associated with a hub. This process is simplified by using the wireless discovery function in the DISCOVERY tab of the Configuration module.
When clicking the Wireless discover icon in the DISCOVERY tab, each Aperio device associated with all connected hubs are listed alongside and in exactly the same manner as a wireless PDK door controller.
Each discovered device displays its MAC address and any existing device configurations associated with the device.
To add a new device configuration for the Aperio device, hover the cursor over an item in the list and click Add Port.
Provide a unique descriptive Name.
Enter 1 for the Port number, and click Add.
NOTE: Since Aperio devices are restricted to controlling a single door, they should only ever have a device configured for Port 1.
Once added, the device configuration for Port 1 shows on the device in the discovery list.
This process should be repeated for each Aperio device in use with the system.
Each device configuration is now listed when navigating to the DEVICES tab of the Configuration screen.
Navigate to each device configuration and set the desired config values and supported features for each device.
From this point, the system configuration and management is device agnostic. Aperio devices are available alongside PDK devices for selection in door lists throughout the system to configure Access Rules, System Events, Auto Opens, and other system features that relate to doors.
NOTE: If two Cloud Nodes are in the same vicinity (even within a mile) and you are unable to detect a wireless device on the nearest Cloud Node, check the other Cloud Node in Discovery to see if it connected to the wrong Cloud Node.
