How to update a Legacy Elevator to use Device Identity

Step 1: Identify Legacy Device Uses

The first step in the process is to determine what the legacy devices are currently being used for. In regards to elevators the legacy devices will fall into one of the following three categories.

• Reader
• Floor
• Reader & Floor

Follow the steps below in pdk.io to verify what they are currently being used for

1. Select Elevators from the Pdk.io Home Page
2. Select an Elevator Floor Group
3. Note the name of each Device listed under “Floors” and that they are a Floor.
4. Note the name of the “Reader” device and that it is a Reader.
• If a Device is listed as both a reader and floor, note the Device as being both a "Reader and Floor" as well as which Elevator Floor Groups it is a Floor in.
5. Repeat steps 1.2 - 1.4 for every Elevator Floor Group.

Step 2: Update Floor Devices Using Device Identity

Now that we have identified the legacy devices as being a "Reader", "Floor", or "Reader and Floor" we will update them to their appropriate Device Type using Device Identity.

1. Select Configuration from the Pdk.io Home Page
2. Select a Device noted as a "Floor" on Step 1.3 above.
3. Click the kabob menu (three vertical dots) in the top right and select “Move to Another Type”
4. Select “Elevator” for Device Category
5. Select “Elevator Floor Relay” for Device Type
6. Select “Save”
7. Repeat steps 2.1 - 2.6 for every device noted as a "Floor" in Step 1.3 above.

Step 3: Update the Reader Devices to use Device Identity

1. Select Configuration from the Pdk.io Home Page
2. Select a Device noted as a "Reader" in Step 1.4 above.
3. Click the kabob menu (three vertical dots) in the top right and select “Move to Another Type”
4. Select “Elevator” for Device Category
5. Select “Primary Reader” for Device Type
6. Select Save
7. Repeat steps 3.2 - 3.6 for every device noted as a "Reader" in Step 1.4 above

Step 4: Update Reader & Floor Devices Using Device Identity

1. Select Configuration from the Pdk.io Home Page
2. Select a Device noted as both a "Reader and Floor" in Step 1.4 above.
3. Make a note of the Connection and Port being used.
4. Click the kabob menu (three vertical dots) in the top right and select “Move to Another Type"
5. Select “Elevator” for Device Category
6. Select “Primary Reader” for Device Type
7. Select Save
8. Select the Back Arrow
9. Select Add Device
10. Select “Elevator” for Device Category
11. Select “Floor Relay” for Device Type
12. Name the Floor
13. Select the Connection noted in Step 4.3 above.
14. Input the Port number noted in Step 4.3 above.
15. Select Save
16. Select the Pdk logo in the upper left corner of the page.
17. Select Elevators from the Pdk.io Home Page
18. Select an Elevator Floor Group where the Device was present as a floor and noted as both a "Reader and Floor" in Step 1.4 above.
19. Select Add Floor
20. Select the newly created Elevator Floor Relay
21. Click Select
22. Repeat steps 4.1 - 4.21 for every Device that you noted as both a "Reader and Floor" in Step 1.4 above.
